Item in the inventory
Items are things which can be picked up by the Cat in Stray.
There are two main types of item in the game: Carryable items, and Inventory items. There are also Manipulatable items (paint cans, flower pots, etc.), which cannot be put in inventory or picked up.
In addition there are also badges, which are arguably a type of item, but have their own pages.

Carryable Items[]
These are simple items which can be picked up in the Cat's mouth and carried around in that fashion. Nobody talks about them, they can't be investigated, so there is no ingame text about them.
Chapter | Description |
---|---|
2 | Small Bucket |
2 | Electrical Box for AC vent |
3 | 4 x Electrical Box for computer |
4 | Electrical Box for AC vent |

Inventory Items[]
The more complex type are items which can be "digitized" by B-12. This removes the item from the environment and places it in an inventory listing which can be accessed by hitting the appropriate key. From there, each inventory item can be selected, examined and rotated, or shown to B-12 for his commentary on them.
All inventory items can also be shown to any of the Characters for whom the "Show Item" option is displayed. This will allow that character to comment on the item, generally giving a clue to what the quest target for that item is.
If they are the quest target, it will instead give the item to them. For example, showing a letter to most people will get advice on how to find the address on the envelope; bit showing it to the addressee will give it to them.
Items are also removed from the inventory when they are used on quest target items; for example, using a locked door will use up its key from the inventory, if you have it, causing the door to unlock.
Each item in the game has only a single quest target, so there is generally no need to worry about using items "accidentally". At the worst, if you accidentally show a quest item to its target, you will miss out on the dialog you would have got by showing the item to everyone else in the area first, and possibly move the main quest along faster than you intended.
